Day 1: United States – Rome

  • Depart on your flight to Rome, Italy
  • Overnight: Inflight

Day 2: Rome

  • Arrive Rome, Italy and transfer to your luxury hotel accommodations at Hotel de la Ville
  • Enjoy an optional visit to the Borghese Gallery, housed in the former Villa Borghese Pinciana, to see exceptional paintings and sculptures of Bernini, Caravaggio, Canova, and Raphael
  • Indulge in Roman cuisine over dinner at a local restaurant
  • Head back to the hotel to enjoy the remaining evening at leisure

Day 3: Rome

  • Begin your discovery of ancient Roman history as you explore the surviving structures of the Roman Forum and Trajan’s Market, and marvel at the 2,662 figures carved into Trajan’s Column
  • Head just east of the Roman Forum to visit the Colosseum (the largest ancient amphitheatre ever built) and discover the newly opened Hypogeum
  • Lunch at a local restaurant
  • Visit the vastly landscaped and once extravagant Domus Aurea’s newly restored frescos, and find out why this magnificent palace was partially demolished
  • Head back to the hotel to enjoy an evening at leisure

Day 4: Rome

  • Wake up early for exclusive early access to the Vatican
  • Head just outside of Rome to Castel Gandolfo and witness the beautiful mix of botanical and archaeological beauty of the Villa Barberini gardens
  • Visit Apostolic Palace, the official summer residence of the reigning pope
  • Enjoy authentic Italian food and wine at Ristorante Pagnanelli with views of Lake Albano

Day 5: Rome 

  • Visit Ara Pacis, an altar dedicated to the Roman Goddess of Peace, gaining insight from a professor renown for her study of the alter
  • See the Mausoleum of Augustus (the largest circular tomb in the world at 87 meters in diameter), reopened after 80 years—and 13 years of restoration
  • Enjoy your lunch and afternoon at leisure
  • In the evening, head to Church of St. Louis of the French to visit the Contarelli Chapel and see the Caravaggio paintings
  • See the Bernini Fountain at Piazza Navona, one of the most beautiful and famous squares in the center of Rome

Day 6: Orvieto

  • Take a day trip to Orvieto, known for its white wine vineyards and incredible underground city
  • Hop on the charming funicular railway to the Italian hilltop town
  • Witness the 14th-century Duomo di Orvieto cathedral
  • Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant 
  • Explore the subterranean city, where 1,200 caves, tunnels and wells were carved into the rock over 2.5 millennia ago
  • Head back to Rome to enjoy your dinner and evening at leisure. 

Day 7: Rome 

  • Immerse yourself in Roman-Jewish life on a tour through the Jewish Ghetto, one of the hidden treasures of the capital, rich in archaeological and cultural heritage
  • Discover the storied past of the Great Synagogue, the largest synagogue in Rome
  • Head to the basement where the Museo Ebraico (Jewish Museum) is located—here, an expert will guide you through the seven ornate rooms displaying precious textiles, manuscripts, and silver
  • Enjoy your lunch and afternoon at leisure
  • Visit Palazzo Colonna for a private opening of the palace, where you’ll see the Apartment of Princess Isabelle (preserved to this day) and view the artworks adorning the Colonna Gallery
