Travel Inspiration: Moorish to Modern Spain
In Spain, experience life as it was meant to be lived. Catch contagious music on a Madrid street. Savor Gaudí’s outrageous flourishes on a walk through Barcelona. Stroll ancient gardens whose leaves drape around a Muslim princess’ summer palace. Tour the Prado (enough said). Add a dash of flamenco, plenty of spice, and a generous sprinkling of national pride. In Spain, prepare to be tantalized.
During our 14-day Moorish to Modern Spain itinerary, we will explore Madrid, Toledo, Seville, Córdoba, Granada, Barcelona, Penedes, and Bilbao.
In the capital city, old and new intermingle and architectural styles abound—medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, neo-classical, romantic, modern. During a day trip to Toledo, visit the Gothic Cathedral, the second-largest in Spain and a repository for important work by El Greco. Next, board a high-speed train for Seville, where we can arrange tickets to a flamenco show. We suggest a visit to the Alcázar while in Córdoba—a royal palace built by Queen Isabel I of Castile and King Fernando II of Aragon. A drive to Granada will be filled with beautiful southern scenery. Barcelona awaits with its iconic art and architecture. Finally, fly over Spain’s mountainous terrain to the Basque city of Bilbao, where we tour the Guggenheim Museum, designed by Canadian-American architect Frank O. Gehry.
