Travel Inspiration: Rebirth of a Nation: Medieval Poland Meets the 21st Century. With Time in Germany, Too.
The world welcomed the Polish state, a productive cluster of fortified towns, in the mid-10th century. It would spend the next millennium or so struggling to keep out from under the thumb of Germans, Mongolians, Hungarians, the SS, and the Soviet army. Some battles it won, others it lost. The Poland we know today has blossomed into an independent nation, the first Eastern European state to shake off the shackles of communist rule. While we’re in this part of the world, we suggest some time in Berlin and Potsdam, two wonderful German cities.
We suggest you begin in Warsaw, Poland. Settle into your room, then we’re off to tour, including a visit to Lazienki Park, a 17th-century Baroque palace complex. See the monument to Fryderyk Chopin, a native son. Then dig deeper into the city.
During our 12-day Poland and Germany travel itinerary, we explore Warsaw, Czestochowa, Krakow, Auschwitz-Birkenau, Wieliczka, Berlin, and Potsdam.
