The route begins in Tokyo, where shrines, neighborhoods, food culture and the city's everyday systems provide a first orientation. From there, rail carries you into the Kiso Valley for Narai-juku, two nights at a mountain ryokan and the classic walk from Magome to Tsumago. Kyoto follows with guided cultural touring and a day left open, before returning to Tokyo for a final evening and an easy departure.
