Okinawa: A Journey into Longevity

Fall 2027
A small group exploration of one of the world’s most fascinating Blue Zones.

Fall 2027

A small group journey is being explored for Fall 2027 in Okinawa, Japan’s southern islands, where traditions of longevity, community, and everyday well-being remain deeply woven into daily life.

Still in the early stages, this concept is being shaped as a thoughtfully paced exploration of Okinawan culture, food, landscape, and philosophy.

Why Okinawa

This journey concept is being explored by Rachel Dorsey of R. Crusoe & Son.

Rachel first lived in Okinawa while teaching English through the JET Programme. That experience shaped her long connection to Japan and continues to influence the way she thinks about meaningful travel.

Okinawa remains one of the places that most shaped her perspective: distinct from mainland Japan, deeply connected to nature, and rich in its own Ryukyuan culture and traditions.

What We’re Exploring

This potential journey would explore Okinawa through several lenses:

  • the culture of longevity and the philosophy of ikigai
  • the rhythms of Okinawan food and daily life
  • sacred landscapes and quiet natural spaces
  • encounters with local guides, artisans, and community members
  • gentle movement, time outdoors, and moments of reflection

Who This May Suit

This journey may appeal to travelers who are curious about Japan beyond the major cities and who value thoughtful pacing, cultural depth, and a small-group experience.

We are currently gathering a small list of travelers who would like to hear more as the concept develops.
